Description

My friend Emma really wanted a Tatty Devine Dinosaur Necklace so I decided to have a shot at making a similiar one for her birthday, without copying their original design.

The great thing about this is that you can change the type of dinosaur by making a few extra bones and a new head and switching them around a bit. If you wanted to make this really cool, try using glow in the dark shrink plastic.

See more wonderful jewellery on their website at www.tattydevine.com.

Instructions

  1. Small dino1 1276208580

Find a picture of a dinosaur you like and trace around the outline on to paper. Remember, it needs to be 7x the size you want your final necklace to be.

  2. Small dino2 1276208659

Use an cutting knife to cut out the inner details. Cut the template up in to sections, to make it look like connecting bones.

  3. Small dino3 1276208677

Place blue tack on one side of the template and stick down on to shrink plastic.

  4. Small dino4 1276208805

Cut out the shrink plastic dinosaur.

  5. Small dino5 1276208853

Decide where you need to connect the bones together and use a hole punch to make small round holes.

  6. Small dino6 1276209625

Shrink down the dino in an oven, making sure to press the pieces flat when they first come out hot.

  7. Small dino7 1276211451

Use white wire to connect the bones together. I made little loops with jewellery pliers, opened them and then slipped it on to both bones before closing them off.

  8. Small dino8 1276211789

Slip a jump ring through the head of the dinosaur and the tail and cut a length of white embroidery thread. Loop it through the jump ring and knot in place.

  9. Small dino9 1276211914

Thread the string with white seed beads, long enough to wear around your neck nicely.

  10. Small dino10 1276212005

Attach half a toggle clasp to either side.

    All done, Raaarrrrr!
