This pencil case features a velcro strip so any accessories can be attatched, detatched and rearranged to make it just how you want! what I want to show really though is that anything can be customised this way aslong as velcro can be attatched to it, whether it be rucksacks, notebooks or phone cover. The possibilities aren't just reserved for laptop keys. you can try scrabble pieces too.

Laptop keys aren’t hard to get hold of. Ask around computer repair shops; most keep hold of old laptops for spare parts or appropriate disposal. . Alternatively old chunky laptop keys are fairly commonplace at car boot sales. The keys should pop right off, ensure the pieces are washed properly, keyboards are grubby little things.
Get a template and zip sorted. My template measures 27cm x 38cm and I have a zip that is longer than the width of the template. Allow 2cm either side of the template for seam allowance. It's a bit generous but I'm a wobbly sewer.
Fabric - two pieces, preferably cotton, are needed, one decorative piece and one for the lining. Cut to the size of the template. This is a great project for fabric scraps - I have two pieces that have been sewn up to make up the length of the template.
First bit of sewing. Lay the outer fabric facing up and the zip on top facing downwards with the slider on the right hand side, the lining fabric with the right side - if there is one, facing downwards. Pin and sew along the zip.
Once sewn, place the zip facing upward with the slider on the right hand side. The sewn edge should be on the bottom edge of the zip. Fold each fabric piece in on itself and align with the top edge of the zip. Pin and sew.
If done right the pencil case should look like this.
Turn the decorative fabric inside out over the lining to expose the zip.
Nearly there!! Flatten out the fabric and line up the zip. The slider should be on the left-hand side in the closed position. Work out where the Velcro strip needs to be positioned.
Attach Velcro it with fabric glue and leave to dry. Make sure it’s the soft side and not the scratchy hooked side! If preferred wider Velcro can be sewn on amongst the fabric zips before attaching the zip. Add as many strips as required.
Time to sew up the sides. Turn inside out, flatten and make sure the zips are aligned up and parallel. Make sure the zip is open half way. Sew along the seam, going back and forth along the sip to ensure stability, and finish with a zigzag stitch.
Ta da!! Turn inside out and poke out the edges with a knitting needle.
Cut the hooked side of the Velcro into strips and glue to the back of the keyboard pieces
To add a laptop key to the zip pull, drill a hole and attach a jump ring.
Arrange at will!!
