I wanted to sport the shirt as a light jacket but the sleeves swallowed my petite frame. Button-front denim skirts were making a comeback so it wasn’t long before I thought of the perfect DIY!
I wanted to sport the shirt as a light jacket but the sleeves swallowed my petite frame. Button-front denim skirts were making a comeback so it wasn’t long before I thought of the perfect DIY!
First, remove the shirt sleeves by cutting them off at the armhole seams. Using a well-fitted skirt as a guide, place it on top of the shirt then trace around it with your marking tool.
After the skirt is outlined, cut ONLY along the waistline then pin the sides following the tracings and fit.
When fitting, make sure to accommodate for the waistband by placing the waistline an inch below your waist. Once you're happy with the fit, sticth the sides then remove the excess.
For the waistband, cut 2 strips (1 from each sleeve) 3 inches wide that when joined equals your waistline measurement plus seam allowance.
Once joined, fold the band in half lengthwise and stitch both ends leaving a 1/2 inch allowance. Next, pin the waistband along the waistline and finish.
As for the sleeves, simply stitch the armholes and sides together to form a casing. Done!
