So I'll start by saying that I got this recipe from the show "Cooking with Dog" that can be found on Youtube. (It's pretty funny and is definitely worth a look) So I started making this recipe, but have made a few modifications over time! Hope you love it!! The recipe is for 2-3 servings
So This is pretty much what you should get at the end!! Yummy yummy food!
The first thing you should do, because it is what takes the longest is start your rice. Now I must say, If you do have a rice cooker, use it, it is the reatest invention EVER!! Perfect rice every time!! If you don't have one go to the store!! (They are really not expensive)
Next, I use sliced beef. The kind that you use for meat fondues. If it is frozen, take it out a bit before, if not take it out of the package and separate the slices. if not, they will cook together just like a steak.
Then Cut your onions into quarter moons.
Then take your two green onions, wash them and cuts off both ends. Then cut them into small pieces. A small part of the pieces will go to decorate the plate, the other part will be cooked for flavor.
Gather the other ingredients you will need. Bonito flakes (I small pouch) Ginger (fresh is best, if not use 1 tbsp of powdered ginger) Water (100 ml) Soy Sauce (3 tbsp) Mirin Sauce (2 tbsp) Fish sauce (2 tbsp) White vinegar (1 tbsp) Sake (2 tbsp - if you have it on hand)
Don't forget the brown sugar. I usually put in 3 tbsp.
Mix Together the brown sugar, soy sauce, fish sauce, mirin sauce, white vinegar & Sake, and cook on medium until it starts bubbling. Add the beef and brown slightly. At this point, you should start you a pot of cold water with 2 eggs in it. Once it starts boiling, time 4 minutes (you want the eggs soft....you can see the photo at the bottom) and then run them under cold water!
Once the beef is browned, take it out, but leave the juices in the pan.
In the pan, add the water, bonito flakes and ginger powder. Throw in The onion, and let cook until the onions are soft. (4-5 mins on low/medium)
The original recipe doesn't ask for extra vegetables, but I like to add some brocoli. Throw in the brocoli for another 2 mins, and then put the beef back in for about 1 minute and add half of the green onions in with the beef.
Put the rice on the plate and then your ready to put the mix on top.
Put the mix from the pan on top of the rice. Then peel your egg (careful because it is soft) and crack it on top. Finish by sprinkling on green onions. This is really good with some marinated ginger on the side to eat with the Beef!! Enjoy!!
