About

I thought I'd try my hand at making a felt donut like I've seen on the net.
I was inspired by www.Donuthos.com and www.Sewdorky.com web sites
I used beads for the sprinkles, but I have a toddler and I made some with embroidery floss for the sprinkles instead because I wanted it to be child safe.
It was really easy, just a little time consuming. This would be fun to put some vanilla potpourri inside to make it smell real too! yum!

You Will Need (11 things)

  • Stuffing
  • Needle
  • Sewing Machine
  • Brown & White Thread
  • 5 ½ in Cardboard Circle (or bowl etc..)
  • 2 ltr Pop Bottle Caps (1 1/4" circle)
  • 1 x piece Brown Felt
  • 1 x piece Pink Felt
  • asst'd seed and bugle beads or Embroidery Thread
  • Ink Pen(s)
  • Scissors

Steps (9 steps, 45 minutes)

  1. 1

    Ingredients you'll need:
5 1/2" cardboard circle (or a bowl etc..)
2 ltr pop bottle lid (1 1/4" circle)
    1 piece brown felt
    1 piece pink felt
    needle
    brown & white thread
asst'd seed and bugle beads or embroidery floss
    stuffing
    ink pen
    sewing machine
    scissors

  2. 2

Fold brown felt piece in half and trace the 5 1/2" circle onto felt with pen.
Center pop cap (1 1/4" diameter) on circle and trace onto felt with pen.
Draw both circles on one layer of pink felt for the iceing.

  3. 3

On the brown felt, sew just inside the 5 1/2" circle line.
Do not sew the little circle just yet!

  4. 4

Leave a 1" opening for stuffing and cut out brown felt donut about 1/4" past your sewn line.
And cut the little circle about a 1/4" in from the drawn line towards the center

  5. 5

make little notches every 1/4" all around the inside of the little circle.

  6. 6

Turn the donut right sides out.
Now to sew the donut hole closed....
Turn a couple of tabs in at a time and whip stitch them closed, just like when your done stuffing something
and you close the opening. Just tuck,stitch,tuck,stitch... easy as...pie.

  7. 7

Now stuff your donut, I like to use the end of a pen to get my stuffing in good and tight.
Now's the time to add potpourri or other smelly stuff if you want your donut to smell yummy.
    Whip stitch opening closed.

  8. 8

    Icing:
stitch beads or embroidery sprinkles to the pink felt.

  9. 9

Pin the icing to the top of the donut and whip stitch in place.

    Your done! It looks delicious!!!

Now I think I'll try to make an eclair, cinnamon roll, boston cream etc........yum!
