Cut Out + Keep

Decoupage Table

A quick beginners guide to decoupage

Decoupage is the art of decorating objects with paper then varnishing several times. The result makes the paper not look like it has been glued on and that the graphics have been painted or inlayed within the furniture. Pretty cool! The effect does require a bit of patience but it’s an amazing (and cheap) way to breathe a little life into any sorry looking tables and chairs you have around the house. Step 1 If your item already has a varnished or gloss finish, use your sander to remove (this table already had an unfinished surface) Step 2 Cut your chosen paper up into small segments. You can either tear or use scissors depending on what look you’re going for. Step 3 Use the spray glue to stick your paper onto the item. I’d be pretty generous when spraying the paper and make sure it’s all stuck down. I started by using pvc glue but was experiencing major air bubbles so I switched. I did use the pva to glue down any edge’s I’d missed though. Once cover and glued down ,wait to dry. Step 4 Once all your glue is dry, varnish a few thin layers over the top and leave to dry.
