I wanted to imitate porcelain vases, but in my favorite color of purple. You know the kind you see everywhere in blue and white. Why are they available in purple? So, I had to make my own!

You Will Need (5 things)

  • Mod Podge
  • Newspapers
  • Paper Towel tubes
  • Paper Napkins
  • Paintbrush

Steps (6 steps, 1440 minutes)

  1. 1

Blow up two balloons. With one balloon, push the center of the balloon into the balloon and grab the bottom end, pulling it up and tying both ends off with a string, making for a round donut shape. And the other balloon, a regular oval shape.

  2. 2

Paint mod podge over the balloons and begin adding strips of newspapers until the entire balloons are covered. You will need at least seven layers, letting the layers dry thoroughly. Once all of the layers are dry, pop the balloons.

  3. 3

Then center cardboard tubes over the middle and trace vase openings. Carefully cut out the opening and attach the tube with masking tape.

  4. 4

Then apply mod podge and newspaper strips over the tubes to connect. For the donut shape, twine was added to make a lip and covered with paper and glue and let dry.

  5. 5

Once dry, spray paint with a white primer and let dry. Then separate the white layers from the napkin pattern and tear into strips and apply with mod podge.

  6. 6

After covering the entire vases with napkins and mod podge, and allowed to dry, apply a final coat of mod podge to seal. And finally, apply a glaze for a hard glossy look!
