These tassels are a great way to make your home furnishings look unique and sumptuous.
STRAND 1 Prepare your needle with about 100cm of nymo loom thread. With your needle, pick up a royal blue rocaille and move it to about 20cm from the end of the thread. Knot your thread several times to secure the rocaille. Pick up 1 glass bead of your choice from your bead mix. Then pick up 25 more royal blue rocailles. Pick up a large bead. This will be your tassels’ central bead. Pick up 25 more royal blue rocailles. Pass the needle back down the central bead so that a loop is formed.
STRAND 1 CONTINUED To finish the first strand of your tassel, pick up another 25 royal blue rocailles, 1 glass bead of your choice and 1 more royal blue rocaille. Excluding the last rocaille added, pass your needle back through all the rocailles and beads on the strand until you reach your start rocaille. Knot the 2 strands together several times. Weave back up through a few of the beads again. Trim any excess thread.
STRAND 2 Begin the second strand of your tassel in the same way as you did in step 1 with 1 start rocaille, 1 glass bead and 25 more rocailles. As before, pass your needle through the central bead. Then pass your needle through the loop of rocailles on strand 1 and back down the central bead again. As before, add another 25 royal blue rocailles, 1 glass bead and 1 more royal blue rocaille. Finish off as before as you did in step 2.
STRAND 3 The third strand of your tassel is made in exactly the same way as the first, but using turquoise rocailles instead of royal blue. Your finished item should have 2 loops at the top – 1 turquoise and 1 royal blue. When the strand is complete, finish off by weaving all excess threads through the strands to secure. Trim off any excess. Make another tassel in exactly the same way. Then make 2 more tassels but do 2 strands of turquoise and 1 strand of royal blue.
ATTACHING YOUR TASSELS Prepare your needle with 200cm of thread doubled to make a 100cm length. Knot the ends. Attach your thread to 1 corner of the cushion by sewing from back to front. Sew round 2 or 3 times. Pass your thread through the centre of the 2 loops and through the corner of the cushion again. Repeat several times until the tassel feels as though it is attached securely. Pass your needle through the cushion again and then through the loop of your thread. Pull tight. Do this several times. Trim excess thread. Repeat with the other 3 tassels on the other 3 corners.
Your finished project should look something like this.
