About

My Lovely Man literally saw this in someone's trash. He asked permission and dragged it home 40 miles on the bus proud as can be. I had "other" plans for it until I hit on this idea!

So much of this is creative, I was hesitant about making it a tutorial but digging into your first light fixture is a little daunting until you do it. I thought you'd like to see how super easy it is!

Go for it.

You Will Need (2 things)

  • Hanging Light(s) Fixture
  • Wire Cutter

Steps (3 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

Truly trashed, this heavily disguised treasure was missing several pieces and was clearly not going to shed light ever again!

Strip out all the wiring. You may need some wire snips. I kept the wood pieces for another project (coming soon!).

  2. 2

I reversed everything. Once you start digging into a light fixture, it's easy to remove and re-set pieces.

Loosen the arm cups and turn them facing up instead of down; remove the top and switch it to the bottom.

I found a big pendant shade replacement at the Habitat for Humanity store for $3 and glued it in with Gorilla glue.

  3. 3

I could have used additional shades for the arms but I stumbled on these cute little flower pots (69 cents apiece) that fit perfectly and had their own drainage plate attached. I did not want to glue these permanently so I added duct tape to their bottoms in thick rolls and used the original screws on the cups to hold them in place.

Add flowers and the dragonfly art your sister gave you and Viola!

~Yes, these flowers are over big for the pots but I was so excited to share this I planted them anyway. =P
