About

With my niece's birthday (6 years old!) coming up this month, I was searching around for something to get her when I discovered Dancing Ribbon Rings. I was about to buy them, when I realized that I could probably make them myself!

These would make awesome party favors for a little girl's party! They would also work great in Easter or May Day baskets, or make them red-white-and-blue for the 4th of July, or Christmas-them-up for stocking stuffers!

You Will Need (4 things)

  • 1-3/8" Wood Clip Rings
  • 3 Poly Satin Ribbon
  • Lighter or matches and a candle
  • Craft, Tacky, or Fabric Glue (optional)

Steps (8 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

Well, for the life of me I could not find large enough unfinished wooden rings anywhere! I finally found something that would work: wooden curtain rings; you can get them at most hardware stores in the section with the curtain rods. They have hardware screwed into them but it's easy to remove. You could also substitute shower curtain rings if you'd rather use plastic (and they come in a variety of colors).

  2. 2

From an 18-ft. spool you can get 4 pieces of ribbon (with a little left over).

    (3) 18-ft. spools per pair of rings for triple-colored ring sets.

    (5) 18-ft. spools per 2 pairs of rings for 5-colored ring sets.

  3. 3

Unscrew the eye hooks with clips from all the wooden rings. You can separate the hooks from the clips if you'd like. Keep these around and stay tuned to my blog for a neat project to utilize this hardware!

  4. 4

Measure out and cut 4-ft. sections of ribbon.

  5. 5

Fold ribbon halfway through ring and knot; you'll have approx. two feet of ribbon hanging from the ring. I'm not sure what the "technical" name is for the knot that I used, but it's the same way you would tie a balloon closed.

  6. 6

If desired, you could use the optional glue to secure the knotted ribbons in place.

  7. 7

"Heat seal" ribbon ends: Use the lighter (or lit candle) to finish the ends of the ribbons and prevent fraying. Quickly pass ribbon edge through flame, it doesn't take much and you don't want to scald the ribbon.

  8. 8

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat! You could make a single or a matching set. There are thousands of color combinations! You could try with different sizes, textures and lengths of ribbon. The possibilities are endless!
