It was crocheted using an existing hound coat as a template, using chunky wool for extra warmth, and is modelled here by the lovely Bessie rather than its eventual recipient, Thomas. This is how it was made.
It was crocheted using an existing hound coat as a template, using chunky wool for extra warmth, and is modelled here by the lovely Bessie rather than its eventual recipient, Thomas. This is how it was made.
The existing coat was spread out on the table and a foundation chain was made equivalent to the width of the back edge. The shape of the coat was then followed using double crochet (English terminology) , incresing and decreasing as necessary to keep the shape.
When the neck was reached, I folded the existing coat in half lengthways and crocheted each side separately again following the shape of the existing coat.
The two fronts were than slipstitched together.
I then made a rectangle roughly corresponding to the bellyband on the existing coat and attached velcro so that it would fasten when overlapped.
The rectangle was then attached to the coat using the existing coat as a placement guide. As this was made using an existing coat as a template, it could be made using any yarn or hook as long as the dimensions of the original are followed. Mine was blue and grey, but you could end up with a psychedelic extravaganza!
