This is a very simple pattern, perfect for beginners. You’ll only need to know how to make the chain stitch and single crochet. You’ll need cotton in two colours (or just one colour, whatever you prefer), a cute button, and of course a crochet hook, needle and scissors. My crochet hook is 2,6mm, but any size from 2,5 to 3mm will work. Make one in glittery yarn to match your party dress!

First, chain 146+1 stitches. The first 8 of these stitches are meant for the loop around the button. If your button is wider, make a larger loop, but remember the number of stitches. The +1 chain stitch is the chain you use to turn your work. So in total you’ll chain 147. Turn around and single crochet all of the stitches, until you reach the loop. Chain 1 and turn. Now you’ll start crocheting in tiny arches. To start, chain 5, skip 3 stitches and single crochet into the 4th single crochet of the previous row. Look at the chart to see if you’re doing it right.
We are crocheting two different kinds of arcs: A: chain 5, skip 3 stitches and single crochet into the next stitch B: chain 5, skip 2 stitches and single crochet into the next stitch. You can see the only difference is the amount of stitches you skip. Arc B will make your crochet work curl a little, so we are using this to shape your collar. So, for the 3rd row, crochet: 11x A, 7x B, 2x A, 7x B, 11x A. In total, you’ll have 38 arcs. Row 4: chain 1, turn, 2sc into the first arc so that you’re somewhat in the middle of the first arc. Then: *chain 5, sc into next arc*. At the end, you’ll have to make half an arc. To do this, chain 2, and dc into the base of the first arc of the previous row. If this step is not clear, let me know and I’ll add more pictures. Row 5: *chain 5, sc into next arc*. At the end you’ll have to make half an arc again, so chain 2 and dc into the first sc of Row 4. Row6: Turn your work without chaining 1, and sc 2 in the half arc. Then: *ch 5, sc into next arc*. Make half an arc at the end. You’re done with this colour now, so cut the thread and weave in the ends.
Take the other colour and attach it to the other side of the collar. Yes, the other side, so the right side is facing up. To attach the thread, chain 1...
...and single crochet in onto the collar. I attached the thread to the first single crochet of the previous row.
*Chain 5, sc into next arc*. Close the last arc with a sc or slip stitch, whichever you prefer. Weave in the ends.
Sew the button onto the collar, and finish the loop on the other side. And that’s it, you’re done! I’ve always found it difficult to match collars to outfits, just try different combinations!
