You Will Need (6 things)

  • Contact Paper
  • Watercolor Paint
  • Watercolor Paintbrushes
  • Watercolor Paper
  • Silhouette cutting machine
  • Watercolor Pencils

Steps (6 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

This video shows the step by step process of creating easy watercolor paintings using a contact paper stencil cut by hand or with a cutting machine!

  2. 2

Make sure you have all the necessary tools available to you - namely water and the paints. A water bowl is a must.

  3. 3

Cut your desired design either by hand or using your Silhouette cutting machine (or similar tool). Adhere it to the watercolor paper.

  4. 4

To paint "wet-on-wet" you need to wet both the watercolor paper and contact paper with water by brushing them with a wet paintbrush.

  5. 5

Add colors little by little to slowly build up the look making sure to keep everything wet so the colors are not too concentrated.

  6. 6

Wait for the paint to *completely* dry. When it is dry, remove the contact paper and marvel at your beautiful geometric silhouette. It looks like the process was so complicated, but realistically it was as easy as applying a sticker, painting over it and removing it. Amazing!
