Take an old, unused flower vase and create a gorgeous designer version using paper and spray paint.
Take an old, unused flower vase and create a gorgeous designer version using paper and spray paint.
First you'll want to create one to several paper flowers in varying sizes. This image shows a simple tutorial on how to make your own out of cardstock - or you can follow this link for a larger image: http://100things2do.ca/how-to-make-paper-flowers/
You'll want to wash down and dry your vase thoroughly to remove any dust, oils or residue. Use your hot glue gun and apply your paper flower/s to your vase in a winding path. You can use 1 flower or twenty small ones - whatever your taste.
You will be able to see the glue on the inside of the vase, but don't worry - this is the part that holds the stems and water anyways.
Apply several light coats of gloss spray paint (in your choice of colour). Try to get into all the little nooks and crannies so that no paper is left showing.
The gloss paint will add a nice shine to your piece and give it the look of an expensive ceramic vase - but without the price tag.
Fill with flowers, or leave it as a stand-alone - this is a pretty statement piece either way.
Note: even though the flowers are covered with layers of spray paint, this project can't be submersed in water - washing will have to be done on the inside, with only a light wipe to the outside.
