- 15 in Zip
Steps (22 steps, 180 minutes)
-
1
Start by cutting two large rectangles of red fabric, measuring 16.5" x 12".
-
2
Fold in each edge by 1/2", score with scissors to flatten and pin. Place the second rectangle to one side for the moment.
-
3
Cut another rectangle measuring 16.5" x 7". Fold in each edge by 1/2", score with scissors to flatten and pin.
-
4
Then fold the top right corner down again, so that the right side of the rectangle is only 4.5" tall, giving your rectangle a nice straight slant, score with scissors to flatten and pin.
-
5
Now cut a rectangle measuring 16.5" x 5". Fold in each edge by 1/2", score with scissors to flatten and pin.
-
6
Next, cut a rectangle measuring 4" wide by 5 1/2" tall. Fold in each edge by 1/2", score with scissors to flatten and pin.
-
7
Sew along the top edge of the rectangle.
-
8
Next, cut a long strip measuring 16.5" wide by 2.5" tall. Fold in half and sew along the open edge. Turn inside out.
-
9
Pin the long string along the top of your rectangle, about an inch from the top. Pin the rectangle an inch below that, and two inches in from the left hand side.
-
10
Sew around the bottom three edges of the rectangle to make a pocket and remove the pins. Sew two lines down the top strip, inline with the pocket.
-
11
Pop a few of your favourite pencils or pens into the pocket and sew lines in place to hold each of them. Sew corresponding lines down the top strip.
-
12
Sew the top edge on the medium slanted rectangle and small rectangle.
-
13
Place the medium rectangle on your toolbelt and pin along the bottom and edges.
-
14
Sew a line down the left hand side, inline with the pencil pocket. Pop your favourite large scissors under the pocket and sew a diagonal line to the right to hold them in place.
-
15
Place the small rectangle in place and pin at the sides and bottom. Sew a line down the middle of the rectangle to create two small pockets. Pop your favourite small scissors under the pocket, and sew a smaller diagonal line to the right to hold them in place.
-
16
Pin the zipper along the top of your toolbelt. Then, pin the other rectangle you cut in step one to the other side of the zip. The wrong sides should be facing down.
-
17
Sew the zipper in place.
-
18
To make the straps, cut two long rectangles measuring 24" x 4".
Fold the top and bottom edges over by 1/4" inch, then fold the rectangle in half and sew along the open edge. Fold the open sides in and sew up.
-
19
Position the straps at the top of your toolbelt, at either side and pin in place.
-
20
Sew around the bottom three edges of your toolbelt, securing the straps tightly at either side.
-
21
Finally iron or sew a custom label on the corner and you're done.
