Beachy hair that wont damage your hair

About

Like many, I was watching some beauty people on youtube, and they have used a sea salt spray. I wanted it, but it was like 20 dollars for a small bottle. So, I looked for a DIY version. There were three versions I found on youtube. This is mine. :)

P.S. Sorry, the pictures aren't ones I took. I didn't take a picture of me making this, but I did add pictures.

You Will Need (7 things)

  • 1 tsp Hair Gel
  • 1 tsp Hair Spray
  • 1 tsp of any Conditioner
  • 1 tsp Sea Salt per 8 oz of water
  • 1 tsp per 8 oz water Sea Salt
  • Essential Oil
  • Lemon Juice

Steps (9 steps, 15 minutes)

  1. 1

    Get a spray bottle.

Mine was an old perfume bottle from Bath and Body works that I had just finished. Make sure you like how it sprays out water. You want it to be a mist, not a stream.

  2. 2

Take a measuring cup and fill with 8oz of purified or distilled water(tap water is fine, but in some places there are a lot of chemicals.). Put it in the microwave and heat. Don't boil it.

  3. 3

Get your salt and your teaspoon.
For every 8oz water you need 1 teaspoon of sea salt. The more salt you use, the more "beachier" your hair will be.

Add the salt and start mixing.

  4. 4

When all the salt has dissolved, add the conditioner and hair gel/hair spray into the bottle. Don't add a lot, around 1/2 of a teaspoon.

The conditioner will help condition since the salt will dry out your hair. The gel/hair spray will hold the curls.

  5. 5

Pour the sea salt water into the bottle, depending on the size of the bottle, it may or may not fit.

  6. 6

    Shake it!!!

    (Shake it before each use)

  7. 7

    Now to use it!

Spray your roots and your hair. Don't brush your hair afterwards, or else you wont get curls.

  8. 8

    ***Not a step**

You could use coconut conditioner to create a "beachy" scent.
Essential oils: If you have dry or coarse hair, this is a good add-in. They will help condition your hair and add some shine. Choose whatever scent you want: ylang ylang works great for sensitive skin and problem scalps. Rosemary is great to help deepen the color of brunette's hair and chamomile brightens blonds. Tea Tree Oil is great for sensitive and oily scalps. If you have oilier hair, this is the best oil to add for you since it won't make your hair oilier or weigh it down. Use 3-5 drops.

Adding more sea salt will give it a more "beachy" look, but will dry out your hair more.

Lemon or lime juice: This will add a slight citrusy scent as well as some extra hold. If you don't want to lighten your hair, don't use this! By adding this and going out in the sun, you could lighten your hair. Add a Tbsp at a time and be careful - too much and it will be sticky!!

Rubbing alcohol: Several online recipes suggest adding this. If you add lemon juice, you will need to add about 1 tsp to preserve freshness. If you have oilier hair, adding this is fine (even without the lemon juice) it will help the other ingredients dry faster and it will help with hold. Just don't add too much or else you'll smell like rubbing alcohol!

Now, your done! I added a lot of other add ins on step 8, so if you deicide to make this, make a version!! <3

    Thanks, Alexandra!
