Commissioned Two Color Doublet
Made from curtains for a movie

About
I was asked to make a doublet for a graduation film project (www.magistratus.nl).
I already had a pattern (simplicity 4059) but they wanted a few changes:
- the sleeves had to be closed
- there had to be a stiff collar
- there were two colors of fabric to be used, the lighter one would be used as wide strips and for the undersleeves.
I had to cut up the pattern into pieces to provide for the contrasting strips. This involved a lot of thinking through since drawing a straight strip on the pattern would not result in a nice vertical strip on the wearer.
Lining the stuff up was quite a challenge.
The collar was an addition to the pattern that had no collar at all and quite a deep neckline. The actor who is going to wear this doublet had a wider neck than the accompanying shirt pattern provided, so I had to improvise a lot.
The guy wearing it in the picture is my boyfriend, not the actor for whom it was made.
Also, there are no buttons because they were not provided. The commissioner did not want to risk sending the buttons so she will sew them on herself.
My bfriend is wearing a red shirt underneath to show that the sleeves are open, they actually hang with 3 cords each into the shirt. The actor will need to wear a proper shirt.
