You can use anything you have on hand for your covers. They should be lightweight but not super lightweight. I find wallpaper to be the perfect paper. I have found big rolls of some very ugly stuff that I use at the thrift store. I simply cover the ugly side! I start by painting some acrylic paint over it. You are going to cover most of this, but I like it to cover the areas the paper scraps will not cover.
Make a diamond shaped template. I trace around this onto my scrapbook papers and then cut out. Choose one image to sort of be the focal point of the front of your book as well.
Position your scraps of paper and your focal image on the cover of your book. Be sure to use lightweight images on the center of your book as you will be folding it there and want it to bend easily.
Once you have your papers positioned how you want them, glue them down! I trim off the edges of the diamonds that hang over the edges.
It is optional, but I like to run my book cover through my sewing machine, sewing between all of the diamonds. It's okay if it's a little crooked and not perfect. It is a shabby chic look anyway. Fold the book in half. For your inside pages choose whatever you like, I chose some recycled papers for the insides of mine. I love to recycle pretty much anything I can find into my books. Use a pamphlet stitch to sew your signature into the inside of your book.
Collage or do whatever you want on the inside pages. Here is a sample page for you. I like to cut, tear, or rip background papers and then add a focal point image.
