Description

I love finding items at thrift stores that I can transform into practical, useful and pretty decor pieces. I found the perfect old picture with a deep sided frame for this project.

Instructions

  1. Small old picture in frame 2

Gather supplies. I bought an old frame at a thrift store, so it needed to be cleaned. I used TSP to clean the frame and soap and water to clean the glass. I followed that with some glass cleaner spray.

  2. Small second coat of chalk paint 3

Paint the entire frame, including the glass with chalk paint. I used Celery by Waverly. It took three coats to cover the glass completely.

  3. Small stencil 1

Select the stencil and tape it to the glass using painter's tape. Make sure that it is flat against the glass. I chose to paint the stencil with Cashew by Waverly.

  4. Small stencil 2

Allow the paint to dry and then pull off the painter's tape.

  5. Small distressing

Sand the edges of the tray to give it a distressed look. I used a palm sander, but you can easily use a medium grit sand paper.

  6. Small knob 1

Place the drawer pulls in the center of both sides close to the frame's edge. Glue the pull to the glass. You can use hot glue or an epoxy for this. I don't recommend lifting the tray by the pulls. They are more decorative than functional.

  7. Small tray 4

This is such a low cost, easy to make tray that adds style and function to any decor.
