Who says you can only knit with yarn? Cut old tees into strips, and knit these funky little cloths. They can be used for a variety of purposes, even as coasters. I love the chunky, durable nature of them.

I gathered some tee shirts my son had outgrown. (You Call of Duty fans, I know you're gasping right now!)
The second step is to cut the tee shirts into long strips that can be tied together and wound into a ball. After some trial and error, I found that cutting the strips very narrow made knitting easier (I used a size 11 needle.) If you prefer wider strips, make sure you use a larger knitting needle, such as size 14.
The knitting pattern I used is so simple: cast on 14 stitches, knit in garter stitch until desired length, cast off.
