Instructions

  1. SHAWL With crochet hook, chain 91. Place last st on knitting needle and pick up and k 90 sts through back of crochet chain—91 sts. Begin chart Row 1 (RS) K5, work chart to rep line, work 16-st rep 4 times, work to end of chart, k5. Row 2 K5, work to rep line, work 16-st rep 4 times across, work to end of chart, k5. Cont to work in this way, keeping first and last 5 sts of every row in garter st until row 12 is complete. Rep rows 1–12 until piece measures approx 53”/134.5cm from beg, end with a row 12. Knit 
1 row. Bind off loosely.

    FINISHING Block to measurements. Tassels Mark positions of 7 tassels at the points on each end of shawl. Wrap yarn around cardboard 12 times. Cut one end of looped yarn open. Draw the strands through a marked stitch to the halfway point so that ends are even. Wrap one end of an 18”/45.5cm length of yarn tightly around the top of the tassel 10 times, allowing the other end to form part of the tassel. Draw the wrapping end of the strand through the loop and pull both ends of the tying strand straight down. Neatly trim the tassel ends. n
