For a long time I have had it on my heart to make Chrismons. I had tried regular felt but found that the sheets of “Fun Foam” was the best material to work with a gold sharpie type marker and gold glitter glue. I think special 3D gold paint for fabric would look great too. All sorts of patterns are available on line, and I have saved quite a few on my Christmas Pinterest board. My very best memory as a child growing up as a member of Zion was attending Christmas service in the old church with this huge tree in the front covered with handmade white and gold Chrismons. It all seemed larger and more beautiful than I am sure it was but every time I see a Chrismon tree at a church it is like coming home to that wonderful awesome way to worship the true meaning of Christmas and celebrate the gift of Christ in the Lord’s house. It is my hope that you also will find a special connection to these types of decorations. CHRISMONS MINISTRY The Chrismons ornaments were first developed by Frances Kipps Spencer (1917-1990) at Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, Virginia. She originated them in 1957 when she set out to create decorations appropriate for a church Christmas tree. Chrismons are NOTt to be bought, sold OR put into kit form. They are to be white and gold only. CHRISMON = CHRIST+MONOgram and proclaim the name, the life, and the saving acts of Jesus the Christ. The Irish or Celtic Cross is a normal cross with a circle in the middle to symbolize eternity. The Anchor Cross reminds Christian's that Jesus is the anchor of their faith. The Butterfly is a symbol for transformation and the immortal soul. The Candle both represents that Christians believe Jesus in the Light of the World. The Dove is the symbol of peace and the Holy Spirit. It is shown pointing down to represent the Holy Spirit that appeared as a Dove when Jesus was baptized. The Trefoil is three equal circles intertwined to form a whole and represent the Christian 'Trinity' of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The Crown is the symbol that Jesus in King. It shows that Christians believe Jesus is ruler over heaven and the earth. Alpha and Omega are the first and the last letters of the Greek alphabet. Used together, they are the symbol that Christians believe Jesus is the beginning and end of all things. The Chi-Rho looks like a 'P' with an 'X' on top of it. These two letters are the first two letters of the Greek word 'Christos' which means Christ. The Star of David, sometimes called the Star of Creation, is a symbol that Jesus was a Jew and a descendant of King David. The Anchor Cross reminds Christian's that Jesus is the anchor of their faith. PAX The Peace of Christ that passes all understanding. Doris Osgood

All sorts of patterns are available on line, and I have saved quite a few on my Christmas Pinterest board. Print these off for your template.
Cut template out and trace around the pattern that you have laid on your white fun foam with a pen that doesn't work. You need to fit the patterns which ever way does not waist the fun foam. It will leave a mark that you can follow and cut out with your scissors - small point scissors might be the best for some of the tight edges.
Trace with gold and add detail as appropriate, painting with gold areas that lend themselves to decoration. Allow the paint on the first side to dry before turning them over to do the other side.
Needle and thread punched through the top of the Chrismon and tied in a loop will allow you to hang these from your tree.
