Every year on Christmas Eve, Father Christmas would remain earthbound if it were not for the magic of his brave and faithful reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen. And there is one more little reindeer who joined the team to guide them through the snow – and became the most famous of them all! Here is the story of Rudolph – and a magnificent embroidery. The deer’s antlers have a magical aura about them that you can recreate in these spellbinding colours. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Had a very shiny nose, And if you ever saw it, You would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names; They wouldn’t let poor Rudolph Join in any reindeer games. But then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say: ‘Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?’ Then how reindeer loved him As they shouted out with glee, ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, You’ll go down in history.’ Embroidery size: 6cm (2¼in) (width) x 8.5cm (3³⁄₈in) (height) to 7cm (2¾in) (width) x 10cm (4in) (height) Size of finished wallet: 8cm (3¼in) (width) x 19cm (7½in) (height)

Embroider the pattern on the linen, centring it on the width and positioning it 6cm (2¼in) from the bottom.
Fold the excess fabric to the reverse to centre the pattern on the width of 8cm (3¼in). Fold the bottom of the fabric to the reverse 3.5cm (1³⁄₈in) below the animal (or bird’s foot) and fold back the top edge to create a height of 19cm (7½in). Trim to the left of the long side, 1cm (½in) from the fold and adjust the right-hand side so it covers the back of the embroidery with a 1cm (½in) seam allowance. Trim below the embroidery, 1cm (½in) from the fold.
Place a rectangle of felt under the embroidery and at the back, slipping it under the hem allowances. Sew up the two edges of the pouch (the long side seams and the short seam along the bottom) with slip stitch.
Thread a 12cm (4¾in) length of red and white cord, and insert and bring out the needle 2.5cm (1in) from one of the long sides. Insert again in the centre of the width, bringing it back out 1mm (¹⁄₁₆in) further on. Repeat from the other edge.
Tie the two lengths in a bow, and cut off any excess cord.
