Description

Add a pop of pretty to your home decor with these chic and crafty hand painted candles. A simple and budget-friendly craft project.

Instructions

  1. Small c1 materials needed min

Gather the following materials: •candles •paint colour of choice (mine was a metallic gold acrylic paint) •small artist’s brushes •crafter’s knife •painter’s tape

  2. Small c3 first stripes new

I created two designs for this project, one for each candle. The first was a free hand ‘dash’ design. To do this, simply begin applying the metallic paint directly onto the candle.

  3. Small c4 new

Because this candle is round, I marked the mid-point so that I could balance the look from front to back. I then kept creating dashes all the way around until the candle was covered. Once completed, I simply scraped off the mid-point lines with my nail (as pictured). The acrylic easily comes off the wax of the candle.

  4. Small c6 cutting out triangles new

For the second design, I wanted to create uneven, golden triangles to cover the candle. First, I cut out 3 small triangular shapes, free hand, on sections of painter’s tape using the crafter’s knife.

  5. Small c6 tape on candle new

I then placed the tape at random spots on the candle, painted in the triangles, let them partially dry for approximately 2-3 minutes, then removed the tape. This created organic, slightly uneven triangular shapes around the candle.

  6. Small c7

If you prefer your triangles to have a clean edge, then wait for your paint to completely dry. For acrylic paint, it should take about 20 minutes. Otherwise, your triangles will look something like this.

  7. Small final triangles2

Once completed, you can display each candle on its own, in a grouping, or as part of a vignette.

  8. Small square image2

Either way, your hand painted candles are a great way to add a bit of subtle glam to your home. A great project that can be applied to any décor items - ornaments come to mind, but anything will do :) So very pretty and so simple to do!
