I made this for my house when my roommate complained that we hadn't decorated our apartment yet, and that there was so little of our personality to be seen anywhere. I figured this was the perfect remedy for that.

Your "ingredients". Make sure that you pull your fabric tight in the hoop.
Figure out where you want everything to go. I did this by eye, but I used a pattern for the letters you can find a link to on my blog.
Cross stitch all of the words on, then take it out of the hoop, remove the appliques you had pinned on, and gently wash the fabric lying it flat to dry when you're done. Really it's the waiting for the fabric to dry that takes the longest amount of time.
Then, once it's dry, iron on the appliques. You can sew them on if you prefer because heat does strange things to the fabric, but I sort of spot ironed them. When they're on put your project back in the hoop and cut off all of the excess fabric.
Then you're done! You can enjoy all the fruits of your labor.
You can also hang it somewhere inviting and allow people to enjoy the ambiance it gives to whatever room you hang it in.
