I've noticed that my food photography looks so much tastier against a dark background, so I made a black tablecloth and as I already have so many chalkboard painted things in my kitchen, though the chalkboard theme would look perfect on my tablecloth too. It makes setting the table for dinner a breeze and looks super cute!

Buy or make a tablecloth out of black fabric.
Set your table like you normally would with placemats, coasters and cutlery and trace around their positions with a chalk pen.
Trace around the placemat and coaster to get the basic shape and around the cutlery.
Get creative, adding swirls and patterns on the outside of the outline. Feel free to experiment because if you don't like the design at this point, you can just wipe it away.
Keep going until you're happy with your design.
Now use a fabric paint pen to trace over your design. Make sure to be careful and get it really neat this time - use a ruler if you don't have a steady hand.
Iron the tablecloth on the reverse to set the fabric pen and make the design permanent.
Place your tablecloth back on your table.
Set the table and enjoy!
