I've never really liked our bed and always wished it had a pretty headboard but because we're renting, I didn't have a lot of options. I've been obsessed with chalkboard paint recently and had the idea of putting a chalkboard behind the bed so we could draw any kind of headboard we like.

This is what our bed looked like before. So boring :(

Cover your wall or current headboard with black paper. You can then paint it with chalkboard paint if you like, though it works pretty well without it too.

Now you can start drawing the outline of your bed post. I used jar lids as templates and a ruler to get it nice and straight. Don't worry if you make a mistake, you can wipe it off later.

Add some dimension to your shapes by filling in the shadows and edges.

Then use your finger to blend the chalk.

Keep drawing your bed frame until your happy.

Use a damp cloth over your finger to tidy up any mistakes.

Make your bed, stand back and admire. You could go even further with this add add gems and other embellishments. I'm tempted to draw some birds sitting on mine and change it seasonally.
