Instructions

  1. Let’s start sketching First, you need to come up with your design. You can try bold, geometric shapes. Or you can do lovely line drawings. Have a play around with a notepad and pencils until you know what you want to draw. Take your time and come up with something that suits your style. Next, clean your crockery with window cleaner, making sure it is spotless and super-dry before you begin. Nice work!

  2. Now let’s draw Shake each pen well before you use it. Get some scrap paper and give the pen a few good presses to get the ink flowing nicely. Now, draw your design directly on the crockery. Smooth, even pressure is best to avoid any lumps or bumps. If you make a mistake, quickly wipe it off with a damp cotton bud or tissue. You need to leave your drawn-on crockery to dry for 24 hours. So do that. Tap tap! Tick tock! Is it 24 hours later? Good! Let’s fi nish our project off so that it is dishwasher (mechanical or people powered!) safe!

  3. Heat set your design Preheat your oven to 150ºC (300ºF). Bake your crockery for 35 minutes. Please do not burn yourself. Remove your crockery and allow it to cool! See how the colours get a bit brighter and shinier after you bake it? Ta-dah! How great are these pens?! Set the table and show off your handiwork!

  4. Variations You could decorate ceramic tiles or doodle on some simple knick-knacks if that takes your fancy. Take a step up and learn to use waterslide decals: you can print an image from your computer on your home printer and then apply and seal! How great is that?
