Originally, this was going to be a pair of earrings. I made some for a friend for her birthday and decided I needed a pair, too. But twice, I had the second bolt break on me while I was cutting it out. So I made it into a necklace instead.
Originally, this was going to be a pair of earrings. I made some for a friend for her birthday and decided I needed a pair, too. But twice, I had the second bolt break on me while I was cutting it out. So I made it into a necklace instead.
First, you will need to sketch out your lightning bolt onto the cardboard to use as a template. I did this one freehand. It can be as large or small as you want. Cut out your bolt.
Next, you are going to trace the bolt template onto the CD (or DVD). The CD I used was a Memorex CD-R that was white on one side, iridescent aqua on the other. I did the tracing on the white side to hide any pencil marks.
Very carefully cut out the lightning bolt shape. Take your time with this step and use the sharpest scissors you have. Otherwise, the CD may start to crack or snap. I used a pair of fabric shears. Use the Dremel to drill a hole near the top of the lightning bolt. Be very careful when you do this because the CD likes to try to slide away, so hold it down as firmly as you can.
Fasten the jump rings together and loop them onto the lightning bolt. Thread it onto the chain and you're done.
