It's basically the simple fingerless mittens but with a more interesting knitting pattern. Perfect pattern btw for a beginner, it has many different stitches in it and it's a great way to practise them, cause it's just a 6 row pattern.

Description

It's basically the simple fingerless mittens but with a more interesting knitting pattern. Perfect pattern btw for a beginner, it has many different stitches in it and it's a great way to practise them, cause it's just a 6 row pattern.

Instructions

  1. The cat's paw pattern is a very popular pattern (it's simple and pretty :)). I'm gonna start with it and I will tell you later about the measurements, cause are based on the pattern for this project. Cast on. Knit 2 rows. Row 1: k3, *k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k2togtbl, k1. Repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3. Row 2 and 4: k3, p to last 3 sts, k3. Row 3: k3, *k2tog, yo, k3, yo, k2togtbl. Repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3. Row 5: k3, *k2, yo, k3tog, yo, k2. Repeat from * to last 3 sts, k3. Row 6: k3, p to last 3 sts, k3. End with a 5 row, knit 2 rows.

  2. When you start casting on remember: 1)the stitches you'll cast on is gonna be the length of your mitten. 2)it's a 7 stitches pattern with 6 additional stitches in the beginning and the end of every row. So you need to cast on 13 or 20 or 27 or 34 and so on...(just add 7 stitches until you like the length.I think mine was 55 stitches long.) Because it's mittens you are free to adjust the measurements to your hand. For the ones i made, I started from the bottom of the fingers to 4-5 inches from the elbow.

  3. Repeat the pattern until you are satisfied with the width. Be carefull: when you try it around your hand remember to stretch it a bit (not too much!!)because you need it ON your hands and not falling off them when you'll be wearing it. Cast off.

  4. Join one side to the other with the tapestry needle, remembering to leave a hole for your thumb. A pretty nice video on how to do that is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvNWmpW9DOw And that's it!! Gorgeous, lacy mittens made of wool! Enjoy!
