Description

Create a button topiary with a few supplies and enjoy the beauty all year long.

Instructions

  1. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 003817 button%2btopiary%2b001

A few notes about supplies: If you don't want to silver leaf the votive cup, you could just paint it, or use some other small container to your liking. Just make sure one of the styrofoam balls can fit in the cup. Also, cut the dowel to approx 6 inches long.

  2. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 004159 button%2btopiary%2b004

To silver leaf the votive cup, first sponge the Mod Podge on the inside of the cup, and leave a few areas bare. Set aside to dry.

When the Mod Podge is dry, but still slightly tacky, start applying the silver leaf. Tear the sheets into small pieces and spread around the inside of the cup with a soft bristle brush. This size cup took about three sheets of silver leaf.

This is the votive cup finished. Now let's make the topiary!

  5. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 004942 button%2btopiary%2b017

Poke a hole in one of the styrofoam balls. Pull the flowers off of the stems. I used Hydrangea flowers and stacked two together for each motif.

  6. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 005203 button%2btopiary%2b018

Put a little moss under the flower and pin a button through the flower, then pin the unit onto the styrofoam ball. I used two pins for each button. Work your way around the ball, but don't cover up the hole you made.

  7. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 005451 button%2btopiary%2b080

Put a little hot glue in the hole and poke the dowel back in. Now do the same with the other ball. Add some moss to the votive cup.

  8. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 005642 button%2btopiary%2b081

Put some hot glue on the bottom of the plain ball and center it in the votive cup.

  9. Small 101598 2f2014 05 07 005752 button%2btopiary%2b084

Cover the top of the ball with more moss and add some buttons and flowers to the moss.

Now find a place for your lovely topiary to be admired!
