Sorry about the glare in the photos. I don't have a camera so I use the one on my computer. This was not the easiest project but the end result looks good.

First you need to pick out some buttons. They can be any size but the chain needs to fit through the holes. You will also need a fine chain, you can get them at craft stores like Michael's for about 3 or 4 dollars.
Next, begin fitting the buttons onto whatever length of chain you like. You could put them all on or do a few, then another tier containing the rest. However you want to do it.
When you have the buttons ready, you'll need to make the actual necklace part. Measure the length you want around your neck and cut with wire cutters. To each end of this chain, fasten a jump ring. A jump ring is a small, wire ring to hold two parts of a piece of jewelry together. You can buy them at a bead store for only a few cents each, or use wire and make your own. I used part of an old chain.
Attach the necklace piece to the buttoned piece of chain, using the jump rings. Close the rings with pliers. Time to fit the clasp.
Hold up the necklace and find the middle of the long piece of chain. Make a cut at this point. On one end, fit a jump ring and sloe it with pliers. On the other end, fit a jump ring but add the clasp before closing it. Now it's done and you can wear it! P.S. Sorry for no pics. It's pretty simple to figure out, just hard to fit buttons.
