With all those fascinators popping up wherever you go, how can one still have a unique one-of-a-kind look?! Well… by making your own of course and not by use of feathers but by use of buttons. YES! All those buttons you saved of off old clothes which you thought might come in handy for a future project have found their use.

You Will Need (5 things)

  • Button(s)
  • Felt or sturdy fabric
  • Scissors
  • Headband Or Elastic
  • A Sewing Machine /Needle And Thread

Steps (7 steps, 80 minutes)

  1. 1

Draw a shape which suits your taste, this is going to be the base of the headband on which you are going to attach the buttons.

I drew a diamond shape with round corners, if you want to you could use this template (click on the image! seam allowance not included).

  2. 2

Fold your desired fabric in half and put the pattern piece on top, cut out.

  3. 3

Take the elastic cord and wrap it around your head, stretch it a bit making sure it’s not too tight or too loose. Keep in mind the headband base measures about 14cm.

  4. 4

Grab the pattern pieces and put right sides together. Place the ends of the elastic cord on the ‘circle marks’ of both fabric layers with the cord tucked in between. Sew but leave a gap to make sure you can turn right side out.

Turn right side out and sew up the gap at the bottom. I used ladder stitch as its almost invisible.

  5. 5

    Search for buttons!

  6. 6

Sew buttons on, it might be fun to try to sew them with different colours of thread. Make sure to pull your needle and thread through both layers of fabric.

  7. 7

Finish up that last button and there you have it!

You look as cute as a button with your very own unique button headband.
