About

I saw these bunting necklaces circling the net a while back only most were made of leather and were less colourful, I love animals so I will never wear leather if I can help it and I love colour so this is a win win! (I also saw some made of paper and some of ceramics or glass)

I found this necklace not only fun to wear as a necklace but is nice as a headband too!

The Perler beads (or Hama beads) turn out really flat and no peg board is needed!

You Will Need (11 things)

  • Jump Ring(s)
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Oven
  • Felt to hold the needle when pushing through plastic
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Perler Beads (or hama)
  • Chain
  • Needle with sharp tip and blunt needle
  • Post It Notes , ruler and pencil.
  • Needle Nose Pliers

Steps (9 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

You will need the primary colours (blue, red and yellow) and the secondary colours (purple, green and orange)

Find 5 beads of each colour.

  2. 2

Cut the beads in half keeping the colours sorted.

  3. 3

Set the oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

Make 6 little piles of each colour and place them onto a cookie sheet into the oven for 10 minutes.

    See picture:
Open the oven and let cool for a moment then knead them into a ball. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOUR HANDS!

Place into the oven once more for 5 minutes then get them out.

  4. 4

    Set your iron.

Place another cookie sheet on top of the little piles of plastic.

Use a flat surface such as a workbench so you can press harder when you iron. Press the piles flat to about 1 to 2 mm.

  5. 5

With the sticky part of a Post-It note make your template. My flags measure 1.5cm horizontally and 1.2 vertically.

  6. 6

Stick the template onto the plastic and cut the little flags with scissors.

  7. 7

Pinch holes in the corners of the longest side (1.5cm) of the flag.

  8. 8

Connect the flags with jump rings.

Start with orange then red, purple, blue, green and the yellow one last.

  9. 9

Attach an extra jump ring to the orange flag and the yellow flag on the other end of the bunting.

Attach a chain onto one end of the bunting and connect the other end of the chain to the other end of the bunting. (my chain measures 51cm)
