As I am really into Capcom's 2D beat 'em ups like the Street Fighter Series and love horror and monsters, I decided to do some bead sprite figures from Capcom's horror/monster-themed beat 'em up "Vampire Savior"(aka Darkstalkers III in the USA and Europe)which is playable in the Arcades and got a home conversion for the PS1, PSP and PS2(Vampire Savior collection). I figured I'd start with one of my favorite characters from this game, the monster-hunter Bulleta(B.B.Hood in the US/Europe) which is based on little red riding hood. Though she seems sweet and innocent, looks can be deceiving..in-game she's one of the world's top monster-hunters and has a lot of tricks up her sleeves, she uses a lot of weapons like bazookas, knives and landmines to hunt down her victims. I decided to build her ending frame pose for her "Beautiful Hunting" Super-move. I used this frame cause I like the psychotic look in her eyes and she holds her trademark Uzi in her hand. As you can tell from the pictures, I used hama beads to build her. Finishing her was quite a chore as the original sprite is very big and I had to connect 13-peg boards to build her(I took a picture of it, if you want to have a look). Building her wasn't that difficult itself, but it took me a lot of time(around 5 hours). Her head and hood alone are made out of around 320 single beads, so you can figure the whole figure took some thousand pearls to build. The hardest part was to iron the finished figure. That was pretty tricky as I didn't have sheets which are big enough to cover the whole figure, so I cut two sheets and lay them next to each other on the figure. I have some experience with building large sprite art figures(at about 30cm/12 inches height), but Bulleta was kinda difficult for me. Her height is about 43 cm/17 inches and her width is about 48cm/19 inches. Some beads are burnt and melted pretty badly, as I had to iron over her again and again as some parts tend to break off easily if you loosen the beads from the peg boards. Usually I iron one side of the figure, then flip it over on the other side to disconnect the beards from the boards. Then I iron the other side, though not as long as the side before. So, I'm not perfectly happy with how some beads on the figure look like, but I guess it turned out alright. I want to stick it to a wall in my living-room. I guess the experience with building such a big sprite will help me to do it better next time when I'll try to build guys like Zabel Zarock/Lord Raptor or Victor von Gerdenheim and other beat 'em up characters. ;) I don't know exactly how much beads I used for Bulleta, so I guessed that I used around 5000+ beads, could also be more than that. Her head area is already made out of 320+ beads, so I didn't want to count all day ;). I also added close up picutres of her face and her uzi if you want to have a look. Hope you like it.
