So I won a set of vintage Bruge lace coasters and place mat on ebay for about 99 pence, such a bargin! I had intended to sew together to create a sort of crochet squares like bag with a different colour fabric behind but then decided that I didn't have the heart to cut them up as they are so pretty. So I decided to make a sort of hair accessory and after playing around a little I decided to make a facinator.
I started by making four flowers from the 8 little coasters, using two per flower and sewing together with pearl seed beads through the centers. I then cut out an oval base from the thick white felt about 7cm by 4cm and sewed the large lace placemat/dolie to the felt. This makes a sturdy base for the facinator. I then took each of the flowers and attached one on either side of the oval and on either end of the oval and arranged them so that they stand against each other like a bouquet of dasies. (see pics above) I then took another piece of felt and sandwiched the thin alice band between this piece of felt and that of the facinator base. Now I have a fab hair accessory the envy of any Edwardian Gibson girl (or what you like)
