When we built our house fourteen years ago, we thought that the walls in our cathedral-ceilinged living room would look super nifty with high ledges. Although the high wall ledges do look really neat, they are inaccessible and difficult to decorate. We ended up placing an eclectic mix of decorations on the ledge. It looked okay, but wasn't anything we loved. And once it was put up, it stayed up, since it was so difficult to reach. Finally, after years of staring at the same sad assortment of random decorations, I convinced my husband to pull out the scary-tall ladder and try again. This time, I wanted something more meaningful and architectural. We live high up in the Utah mountains surrounded by trees. I wanted to mimic the view of branches that we see everyday out of our windows.

With the box cutter, cut a foam sheet into approximately 16" by 3' pieces. You can really make these into whatever size works best for you and your space. For a small ledge area, you will only need one or two branch bouquets and one pink foam sheet, but adjust as necessary. I had a lot of ledges to fill so I used 8 IKEA willow bouquets and a few foam sheets. The sheets are usually sold in extra-large 8' x 4' sheets and smaller 3' x 3' sheets.
If the foam is less than 2" thick, glue one on top of the other with white glue. Let dry.
Poke several holes randomly in the foam with a screwdriver, being careful not to make the holes too big.
Fill the holes with white glue. Poke the branches into the holes, arranging them as preferred, making sure that they are stable.
Let dry. Make as many as you units as you need to decorate your home's high ledges. Note: Our ledges are so tall that no one can see the pink foam, but if yours aren't high enough, spray paint the foam black or a neutral color.
