My Capri Sun purse is way too open for the Winter so I needed make something that was a little more covered. This was fabric I had lying around. It didn't take much to make this. The rivets were also a leftover and I thought they would be cool. They aren't necessary. The directions are long but this purse is super easy. I just can't write :-P

Instructions

Start with two different colors of fabric - one for lining one for outer. Holding two pieces together, determine how deep you want the purse. The length of the rectangle you cut will be three times this. Mark this. Choose your purse width and mark. With the two pieces of fabric lined up and held together, cut out your rectangle. If you want a triangle at the end, just fold your bag three times, mark where your flap begins, and chop it to look like you want.

  2. Once you cut out the rectangle make sure it is aligned and pin it. Sew around the sides but leave a space open. I left the top of my triangle open. Pull the rectangle inside out. The seam is on the inside now.

Press the purse as flat as possible. With the lining color facing up, fold bag three times and mark where flap starts. With lining still facing out, sew seams from bottom to where flap starts. Also, hand sew the gap you left from before :-)

To make flowers draw a bunch of simple 5 petal shapes. And yes the shapes can be as crappy as the one shown :-P Draw them in different sizes. My biggest flower is 4 different sizes held together. The others are three different sizes held together.

For each flower, hold the pieces together and choose where you want it to be on the bag. I hammered rivets through the center of the flower. You could sew it on, too.

To make strap cut a piece of fabric same color as outer (or not) long enough to hold purse where you want it. The strip needs to be fairly wide because you will fold it in quarters. Iron the strip, then fold in half and iron the folded edge (solid line). Open strip back up. Fold each side in half again (along dotted edge) so that the raw edges are now in the center. Fold back in half along solid line. There should be no rough edges. I held the strap together with fusible tape and then used my machine's vine pattern. You could just sew along the open edge.

Sew strap to each side. I sewed a square along the edges of the strap. That's it!
