About
this is my version of a glam burlesque fascinator. i wear it on stage sometimes, it's definitely an eye-catcher!
i learned to make birdcage veils using this tutorial:
i buy lots of of french netting from pocketsaurus on etsy. she carries a lovely selection of many different colors of veiling, in many various lengths.

You Will Need (5 things)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Thin Plastic Sheet
- Pink And Black Guinea Hen Feathers
- Scissors
- Scissors
Steps (6 steps, 120 minutes)
-
1
to form the base of your cocktail hat, take a sheet of thin, flexible plastic and cut out a teardrop shape. cut a slit in the round part of the teardrop, about halfway to the middle. slide one side over slightly, until the base forms a slightly curved shape. use a bit of duct tape to hold the shape.
(you can also use a couple layers of felt for the base, or even poster board)
-
2
use tacky glue or fabric glue to glue a piece of the fabric covering the base over the bottom. smooth it out, and allow it to dry.
do the same thing to the top, but trim all the way around the edges leaving about 1/2" extra fabric. fold that fabric under, and use the hot glue gun to glue it down securely. the base should be totally covered with the fabric of your choice now.
-
3
plug in your hot glue gun. arrange your feathers in a position you like. glue them together if necessary, to hold them in a group.
then, take your spider (or other toy!) and glue it down on top of the feathers, to help hold them securely.
-
4
make your veil with the needle, thread, and french netting. (see the tutorial i listed at the top, it's the best one i've ever found.)
-
5
use the hot glue gun to carefully attach and arrange the veil to your fascinator.

i added a small black metal comb to the bottom of mine to hold it to my hair. you can use a plastic comb, a headband, or whatever you prefer.
