love the Harry Potter books and movie series. I dont know who my favorite character is, I just like them all so much! And the thought of making my own little Harry Potter world, right here at home, came to me when I found myself looking through one of those little booklets of movie merchandise that comes inside the DVD case. The Death Eaters are the characters I just love to hate, but I really enjoy the masks that they wear (Bellatrix Lestrange being my favorite). So I decided that, because there was no way I was going to pay nearly $100 for it, I was to make my own Death Eater Mask(s). I went online and looked around for different pictures and even came across a few "how-to's" but none of them were to my liking. So I put this out to any and all who may be a nerd like me... Save some money and make one yourself. Happy Crafting!

Take a white plastic, full face, mask from any art or Halloween store. Wash it with warm soapy water, and dry it with a fresh paper towel being sure not to leave any fibers. This is now your mold.
Cover the mold in a generous layer of Petroleum Gel such as Vaseline or Walmart's cheaper version, Equate Nursery Jelly. This is to ensure that your creation slides off with ease and you dont crack it. Next: Roll out a handful of air hardening clay to about 1/2 inch thick and mold it to the mask. Cut out the eyes. Shape the nose and mouth. Add any necessary embellishments, and allow to dry for 24 hours.
Carefully slide your mask off your mold. Line a baking pan with tin foil and pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees. Bake your clay mask for about 10 to 15 minutes. This is get the gel on the inside of your mask to a liquid form. When your mask comes out of the oven, gently tilt it up by placing one end on the rim of the baking pan. leave for about 20 minutes or until cooled. The inside of it should now be dry and you can start painting it to your liking.
To make sure that the design on one side matches the other side try making a quick paper stencil and drawing with a soft lead pencil.* It may not be an exact replica, but I like it just the same!
