I really really REALLY wanted a bear snood (a scarf with a hood) when they were popular last year. Unfortunatley, they were also expensive! So I whacked together a pattern and made my own. Since then I've discovered some great ones on here, including a knitted one I like. So there may be an update to this make. Once I learn how to knit. To the mother!! Anyway, here's how I made mine. I used a fleece throw for my fabric, but just choose something snuggly and you'll be well away. Please forgive my mugging to the camera in the photo above...

Make your pattern (yup it's more MS paint doodles 'cos I didn't photo any of this). You will need: -One long scarf length bit (I made mine about a metre and a half and I can put my hands in the pockets quite comfortably, but measure your own for fit. -x2 pocket sized bits (same width as your scarf bit) -x2 hood sized bits (the easiest way to get the shape is to draw loosley round a hoody that you already own!) -x1 bottom-of-neck-to-forehead bit (that's a literal name there - measure from the base of your neck over the top of your head to your forehead, or however far down you'd like your hood to go.)
Take your x2 hood bits and your over head bit. Follow my diagram and sew from the base, round to the front where it should make a neat frame for your face. Cut off any excess as necessary.
You should have a hood looking slightly like the doodle top left. Ok, so that's a bit boxy - yours will be more hood shaped! Top right is an underneath shot, and here is where you need to sew it on to the scarf bit as shown. Top tip! Find the centre of the scarf bit and pin it to the centre of the over the head bit so that you don't end up with one side longer than the other. Remember to sew inside to inside!
Sew your pockets on. Again, remember to sew inside to inside. This step is so easy that you don't really need me to waffle do you?
The rest is up to you, 'cos it's just decoration. I went with a bear design, so used two big black buttons for eyes, used some scrap material to make some round ears, and covered up some messy hemming with a feathery/furry trim (I don't actually recommend this, as it gets up your nose something awful!). My little sister has requested a cat version, so that'd need pointy ears. You get the picture! Have fun and see what you can create. I'm thinking rhino this year :)
