So cool I'm going to Comic-Con in September and will be dressing up as Oracle(wheelchair bound Batgirl) was wondering how to get away with not wearing my leather boots, now I don't have to and I can still look comic book chic.
these are so cool!! what is the best type of shoe material to make these, and also, would they be ok in the rain or should water be avoided at all costs? thank you!

my question is...how do you get the pictures to flatten around the toe section of the shoe? When I place the picture there, it gets all wrinkly and sticks out. What should I do?
mod podge is glue that crafters use, a lot of different blogs i surf used this glue, i guess its supposed to be really good but ive never tried it so i wouldnt reallly know. i really love this idea, now i know what to do with the 5 comic books i have =)
hehe love these! i made ones for my friend but with an old h&m magazine then coated it with a mixture of glitter, cornflour and glue to make them look sandy and she loved them! yay! thank tou for posting this!
I wonder if you used dress flats instead of ballet flats, and made sure to scuff up the surface really well with sandpaper to give it some "tooth" for the mod podge to hold on to? The dress flats would crinkle and bend less than ballet flats, and you can't sand fabric to give it tooth.
Thinking about PVA glue, I almost think it would work better to glue down the comics, and then coat it with a coat of mod podge for it's waterproof qualities. PVA glue is more flexible than mod podge, which is why I think it might work better.
Another glue I use all a lot, actually I use it for almost everthing is Weldbond. It will definately stand up to weather and it has a nice finish. I was able to order a gallon of it at my hardware store, which I use to refill my smaller container.
I don't know if elmer's is weatherproof.
I wouldn't use hardcoat mod podge, because of it's hard finish it would crack when the shoes bend. I am enthralled by this idea and am going to hunt down a pair of shoes to experiment on.
As far as trying glues you aren't sure of, pick up a pair of flats at a thrift shop, use comics you won't be devastated over if it doesn't work, and experiment!
I don't know the conisistency of puzzle coat when dry. It can't hurt to try it on a pair of shoes you don't care about.
I made a version of these and am having the same issue as others with the paper coming off after just wearing them twice. The mod podge doesn't seem to want to make the paper stay stuck to the shoes and when you walk they crinkle and crack. One person I made them for gave me her's back today for me to try to repair them. Anyone have suggestions?
I need help. I made a pair of these and used both normal mod podge and hard coat mod podge, but some of the edges of the images are starting to pull up and off. (I've only worn them out twice just to walk to the store next store and back.) What should I do?
I love these too! How do the hold up in the rain? Has anyone tried spraying them with a waterproof sealer? I think you could definitely print comics out (I don't know if I'd have the heart to cut up old comics anyways!), but in my experience mod podge smears the ink a little so you gotta be quick and careful!
I've just made a pair using old school pin up tattoo flashes then coated with gold pod podge (which i bought by accident!)which give it an aged look.
They are freaking awesome.
Thanks for posting!
Oh I know exactly what you mean hailtheheartbreakers! I went to about 5 different stores the other day trying to find a pair of cheap ballet flats until I finally just paid $12.99 for a pair at Target. I entering them in as a project in county fair and just really needed a pair!
I love these! Go Batman! I've been wanting to make some forever, but you would not believe how hard it is to find plain cheap ballet flats. It's ridiculous.
batman<3

do you have to use mod podge or can you use PVA? X
They are freaking awesome.
