This, personally, was free for me because I'm a girl, so I have barbies left over, haha. Also, I already had paint and scissors. I used acrylic paint, but you could probably use something stronger, if you like. You can seal this as well if it's gonna get tossed around a bit. I also used scissors instead of a razor - with this project, it might be too easy to cut yourself.

You Will Need (3 things)

  • Scissors
  • White and black Paint
  • 1 Barbie Head

Steps (9 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

Start out with a hairless barbie head. The best way to get it hairless is but cutting off as much hair as possible and then using pliers to pull the left over hair from the plugs.
Paint the head white or bone-colored, if you like.

  2. 2

With a pin, trace out the eye sockets, where the nasal cavities would be, along the jawline and over the ears and downwards just a liiiittle bit to make the back of the skull. Maybe even look at a skull pictures while doing this.

  3. 3

Cut out along your jaw line and over the ears.

  4. 4

Poke a couple holes into the eyes with an awl or a pen. Pinch the head so the eye bulges out and cut into eye. Keep trimming into eyes until all you're left with are empty sockets - ooohh. Be careful not to stab or trim off your fingers!

  5. 5

Next is the nose area. Carefully trim off the tip of the nose, be sure to leave the little point of the septum. If you cut it off, it's not the end of the world, haha.

  6. 6

Paint the inside black so you can look into those black eye socketssss.

  7. 7

Paint along the inner edges of the eye sockets, the nose hole, and slowly paint the mouth and teeth.

  8. 8

Next, if you'd like, shade if with some grey (or tan, if you're going for the bone look).

  9. 9

Don't forget to shade the temples, and voila!

This cute little skull can find a great home in a shadow box or maybe even back on the doll - or on a new doll! Though remember to find a new way to attach it if you're putting it on the barbie again because the base of the head held onto the neck.
