this cost me nothing because i made it out of stuff i already had laying around the house: 2 bandanas and a t-shirt. this was pretty simple. i used the bandanas for the skirt and the bottom of a t-shirt for the waistband. i wasn't sure how this would turn out when i whipped it up yesterday, so i didn't take pictures of the progression. but since i had more bandanas laying around the house, i decided to make another one today! can't wait to see your versions!

lay 2 bandanas out flat
cut straight across on the diagonal
sew them together like this, one at a time, with the right sides together (you can see my toes!)
then sew the last to sides together hem the end you are using as the bottom baste the edge that will be on the top & gather to size of your waistband (ihaven't gathered mie yet in the picture)
cut the bottom hem off of a t-shirt and then measure up 8 inches and cut across in a straight line. this is the waistband or you can use a band of stretchy material 8 inches wide that fits the circumference of your waist
1. take your 8 inch tube and turn it inside out 2.fold over a half inch on each end and iron 3. fold entire thing in half so you should have the "right side" of the material on both sides now and all the raw edges are tucked under
4. open it up flat again so the folds are all just creased
put the RIGHT side of the waistband to the WRONG side of the skirt sew waistband to skirt inbetween the edge of the material and the first crease (where the pins are in the picture)
fold along all the creases you made in step 6 so that: 1. the waistband in folded in half and the "right side" is on both sides 2. all the raw edges of the waistband are tucked under 3. all the raw edges of the skirt are between the layers of the waistband. now pin it all together and sew a topstitch from the outside of the skirt so that everything stays together!
rotate your skirt 90 degrees to get a different look. or i guess you could have used 2 matching bandanas and it wouldn't even matter!
