This little hat is super soft and cozy. The Baby Amanda Hat is knit using a very soft wool yarn and smaller needles - and can be machine washed if you use a superwash merino yarn. This baby hat and the original Amanda Hat would make a wonderful gift for a mom and baby.

You Will Need (7 things)
- Stitch Marker
- Tapestry Needle
- Measuring Tape
- Scissors

Yarn: 100 yards of a washable worsted weight yarn, like Cascade 220 Superwash Paints

Needle: US 6 (4 mm) 16" circular and set of dpns (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Gauge: 5.5 sts and 7 rows = 1 inch in stockinette stitch
Steps (5 steps, 240 minutes)

Cast on 63 stitches. Being careful not to twist, join in the round and place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.

1. Garter Ribbing:
Round 1: purl
Round 2: knitRepeat Rounds 1 and 2 two more times. (A total of 6 rounds)

2. Body of Hat:
Follow the Background Lace pattern (see Background Lace Chart) for 12 rounds. (3 repeats)
Repeat Garter Ribbing two times. (A total of 4 rounds)
Follow the Background Lace pattern for 10 rounds. (A total of 2.5 repeats)
Repeat Garter Ribbing two times. (A total of 4 rounds)

3. Crown Decreases: (change to dpns when needed)
Round 1: (k6, k2tog) around to last 7 sts, k7
Round 2 and all even rounds: knit
Round 3: (k5, k2tog) around
Round 5: (k4, k2tog) around
Round 7: (k3, k2tog) around
Round 9: (k2, k2tog) around
Round 11: (k1, k2tog) around
Round 13: (k2tog) around (8 sts remaining) -

4. Finishing:
Cut yarn, leaving a 4” tail, pull through your last stitch and weave in the ends on the wrong side of the hat. You’re finished! :D
