I got this t-shirt from an event I participated in and the print on it screamed beachwear. So I decided to reconstruct it and give it more of a beachy feel.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Fabric Chalk
  • Ruler
  • Fabric Scissors
  • 1 An Old T Shirt

Steps (9 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

MARK STARTING POINT. Turn your shirt inside out and try it on. Mark a point where you want the highest point to be. I chose my waist. Tip: you might want to mark it a little higher if you are doing it yourself because the shirt raises when you raise your arms.

  2. 2

DRAW STARTING LINE. From the point you marked earlier, draw a straight diagonal line across the shirt, front and back, ending at the hem. You can go a little above the hem if you want more netting. Repeat on the other side.

  3. 3

CUT STRIPS. Starting at the hem, starting cutting strips about 1 inch wide, ending at the line you drew. continue all the way around the entire shirt. Make sure that you have an even number of strips or the netting won't work.

  4. 4

PULL THE STRIPS. Gently tug on the strips you cut to make them curl. Tip: keep your shirt inside out and the strips will curl toward you and when you turn it right side out, it will look more clean.

  5. 5

NET THE STRIPS. Take two strips next to each other and double knot them together making sure to pull tight. Continue all around the shirt making sure that the knots are all level.

  6. 6

NET THE SECOND ROW. Similar to before, double not together two strips. These strips should be from different knots from the first row. This maybe the last row for the short area.

  7. 7

NET THE THIRD ROW. Continue the same as before making sure that the strips you knot together do not share a previous knot. I stopped at this row, but you can keep going. See Andrea choice's video if you need further help. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mv5vzC6jH0)

  8. 8

OPTIONAL. To make it cleaner, knot all the strands at the bottom or add a bead and then knot.

  9. 9

OPTIONAL. Trim the collar and the sleeves to your preference. I just cut off the sleeves and gave it a boat neck.
