Armwarmers From Old Tights

For when you find you have cold arms.

Apologies in advance - I only started taking pictures halfway through, but I think the gist is clear. :) I had these tights in my drawer that I'd never worn because they were a bit small and looked awful. But they make great armwarmers! Erm, the images seem to have lost their rotation. Might sort that out later.

Description

Apologies in advance - I only started taking pictures halfway through, but I think the gist is clear. :) I had these tights in my drawer that I'd never worn because they were a bit small and looked awful. But they make great armwarmers! Erm, the images seem to have lost their rotation. Might sort that out later.

Instructions

  1. Small photo 6

Get your old tights, and cut the toes off. Cut the legs off at the point just before where the two legs meet. Pictured: Fold the tights-tubes over on themselves so they're thicker and warmer.

  2. Small photo 7

Cut a vertical slit about 1 inch from the top, as a hole for the thumb. Try it on to see how it fits. :)

  3. Small photo 8

This step was easy on my tights because they're ribbed, but it might not be so easy on other pairs: with some small, sharp scissors, cut 1cm vertical slits at about the position of the wrist, in each rib. Pictured: Thread a ribbon through the slits you've just cut, under and over.

  4. Small photo 14

Should look like this when that's done.

  5. Small photo 9

Adjust the ribbon inside the armwarmer until both the ends are the same length.

  6. Small photo 10

Tie the ends into a bow. If using a thick ribbon like this: when making the first loop, it helps to pinch it at the bottom when taking the other side of the ribbon round to make the second loop - firstly it makes it more compact so it fits well inside the second loop, and second it just makes the bow look better. :) (sorry if none of that made sense!)

  7. Small photo 11

    And you're done!

Enjoy, and feel warm this winter. :)
