  • 16 in Zip

  • Black and Purple Thread
  • Animal ear print Fabric (available from Fabric On Demand)

Steps (21 steps, 180 minutes)

  1. 1

Please note: this pattern includes a 5/8" seam allowance.

Wash and iron the fabric before you begin cutting.

Lay the fabric flat and fold in half lengthways. Lay the front bodice and front skirt pattern pieces against the folded edge, pin in place and cut. Cut two alternative pieces for the back of the bodice and back of the skirt.

  2. 2

Sew darts at the bust on the front of the bodice.

  3. 3

Sew darts on both sides of the back of the bodice.

  4. 4

Line the front of the bodice up with the two back pieces and stitch together along the top of the shoulders and either side, with the right sides facing.

  5. 5

Lay the pockets, wrong sides facing up on the right side of the back pieces of the skirt and stitch along the edges.

  6. 6

Flip the skirt pieces over and fold the pockets back on themselves. Place the second pocket piece on top so that the right sides are together and stitch around the pocket edges.

  7. 7

Line the two back pieces up with the front of the skirt so that the right sides are facing. Fold the pockets inside out, so that they're tucked away inside the skirt and sew along the edges, stopping at the pocket, to stitch the edge of the pocket.

  8. 8

Gather the skirt at the waist by sewing two lines of basting stitches and pulling the lose threads at either side until the width of the skirt matches the width of the bodice.

  9. 9

Sew the bottom of the bodice to the top of the skirt, with the right sides facing and then remove the basting stitches.

  10. 10

Repeat the previous steps to make a second dress out of your lining fabric.

  11. 11

Cut out two sets of collar pieces from black silk and one set from stabiliser.

  12. 12

Place the stabiliser pieces in between the silk collar pieces.

  13. 13

Stitch around the outside edge of the collar and turn inside out.

  14. 14

Pin the two collar pieces in place around the necklace on the front of the bodice so that 1/2" of the collar overlaps in to the neckline.

  15. 15

Lay the lining dress on top of your dress, so that the right sides are facing and sew along the neckline.

  16. 16

Turn the dress right side out. Neaten the fabric around the armholes, so that you're left with a nice clean edge and sew in place.

  17. 17

Fold the dress inside out, so that the right sides are facing and use a basting stitch to sew along the middle edge of the back of the dress.

  18. 18

Insert a zipper in to the back of the dress and stitch from the bottom of the zip to the bottom of the dress with a regular stitch.

  19. 19

Cut a long rectangle of black silk measuring 80" by 8".
Fold the top and bottom edges in to the center and then fold in half. Stitch along the bottom edge of the belt. Tuck the side edges inside the belt and sew along the edges.

  20. 20

Sew two small belt hoops and stitch to either side of the dress at the waist. Slip the belt through the loops and tie in a bow.

  21. 21

Complete the dress by hemming the bottom and lining to the desired length and you're done!
