Make a lovely vintage-y hat for a dressy occasion. Easy, cheap and fashion forward. <3 I made three for my Bridesmaids. ^_^
Make a lovely vintage-y hat for a dressy occasion. Easy, cheap and fashion forward. <3 I made three for my Bridesmaids. ^_^
Buy sturdy felt doll hats at your local Micheal's, Jo-Anne Fabrics or a similar store. They're usually around $2 to $3 dollars each.
Cover each hat in Gesso so that your paint wont be soaked up into the porous material of the hat.
Using acrylic gloss paint, cover the hats with your choice of color. If the hats you bought were black, this is sure to take a few coats.
Deconstruct some fake flowers, making sure to have lots of different shapes and sizes. Snip off all the flowers you like and get ready for arranging them on the hat. <3
Using a medium width ribbon, wrap around the hat and glue in place. Then arrange all flowers and whatever other objects you like in a cascading pattern down the side and front of the hat. Hot glue each in place. In this pink example, I also added veiling in the back for a more dressy feel.
Hats look great with or without the veil. This yellow example is veil-less. ^_^ After the hat is complete, hot glue to a headband/ or glue on clips to both sides of the hat opening underneath. <3 Ready to wear with a lovely vintage dress. <3
Because I made these for my Bridesmaids, I also made boutonnieres for the Groomsmen out of smaller doll hats. I glued a pin underneath to attach to the suits.
