Description

Turn ordinary wood chairs into custom upholstered beauties with ordinary household tools. Change the fabric when it's time for something new!

Instructions

  1. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 194846 upholstered%2bchairs%2b1.2

Clamp your board to your chairs and mark 4 places where to drill your holes. Check to make sure you’re not going to hit anything on the bottom of the chair.

  2. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 194907 upholstered%2bchairs%2b2

Drill through your board and the chair.

  3. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 194917 upholstered%2bchairs%2b3

(I sanded my corners a little and taped them off with duct tape so they wouldn’t tear through the fabric.) Lay your board on top of your foam and trace the outline. Use scissors of a utility knife to cut the foam to size.

  4. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 195021 upholstered%2bchairs%2b4

Put your board back onto the chair and insert the carriage bolts into the holes.

  5. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 195101 upholstery%2bchairs%2b5

Coat your foam with the spray adhesive and put on top of the board. Give it a good press down and let it dry for a while.

  6. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 195121 upholstered%2bchairs%2b6

Once your glue is dry, cut your fabric to fit the cushions. Give yourself at least an extra 2 inches on each side. Don’t forget to factor in the height of the cushion.

  7. Small 102127 2f2014 05 27 195147 upholstered%2bchairs%2b7

Staple into place and trim the excess fabric off. Put the cushions back onto your chairs and screw in place with the carriage nuts.
